1993 Lotus Esprit Sport 300

Price: Reserved Mileage: 67,193

The Lotus Esprit Sport 300 was a homologation special which formed the basis of the motorsport icon's first works supported Le Mans entry for over 30 years, and also won the British GT series in 1994. It was a derivative of the Esprit X180R racer which competed successfully in the American SCCA and IMSA series in the early 90s. Originally the company intended to produce 50 units but eventually built 64, in both right and left hand drive form. DVLA records reveal that there are only 3 Sport 300s licenced for the road in the UK, and 4 on SORN.

The Sport 300 had a highly impressive specification, making extensive use of composites to shave 80kg from the S4's kerb weight and using a hybrid turbocharger, improved valvegear and recalibrated engine management to increase power output to 302 bhp. Improvements in suspension and braking, wider wheels and aggressive body modifications completed a highly desirable package.

Given the rarity of this version and the impressive performance on offer, it is hardly surprising that they have become highly collectable and are rarely available on the open market.

This right hand drive example has been the property of its current very enthusiastic owner since 2000, during which time it has travelled an impressive 40,000 miles and been admired at a wide range of Lotus events. It has been regularly maintained by specialists throughout this period, as evidenced by invoices exceeding £13,000 on the history file. However the car has been little used in recent months and, whilst freshly serviced and MOT'd, does have some cosmetic/minor opportunities for improvement.

Fabulous to drive and destined to appreciate. Complete with its original handbook, period brochures and road tests and the highly appropriate '300 SP' number plate.
